内容記述 | According to Thomas Aquinas, beauty is the same as goodness, and they differ in aspect only. Beauty is goodness, and it has a relationship to the cognitive faculty. Regarding this, it seems that Aquinas gives a principal position to beauty. But, what is that? He defines beauty as having three conditions, i.e. perfection, due proportion, and brightness. With proportion, beauty has to do with image. Image is the proper name of the Son, and man's proper likeness of God. The Son is the perfect Image of the Father, but man's image is very imperfect, so man is called to the image, whereby is expressed a certain movement of the tendency to perfection. Man can express God as image by understanding and loving Him. Man's proper beauty will then consist in such intellectual activity. With the relationship to God and the Son, and to the condition of proportion, there is a great possibility of beauty in creation. | |||||
