肝臓で,コレステロールからの胆汁酸生合成をおこなう初発酵素である Cholesterol 7α-hydroxylase は,その mRNA 合成量に,夜間高く昼間低い遺伝子発現の日内リズムが見られ,そのリズムは摂食によって影響をうけることが知られている。\n また肝臓で主として合成される,ケノデオキシコール酸とコール酸合成の分岐点に位置するCholesterol 12α-hydroxylase 酵素の mRNA 合成についても Cholesterol 7α-hydroxylase と同じような日内リズムがあり,摂食によるリズムの変動も弱いながら認められている。このような摂食による変動が現れる理由を明らかにするために,摂食時間を昼間に限定したウサギについて,最後に摂食させるかわりに,インスリンを投与し Cholesterol 7α-hydroxylase およびCholesterol 12α-hydroxylase の mRNA 合成の変動を見た。その結果, Cholesterol 7α-hydroxylase mRNA の合成はインスリン投与によって,摂食と同様に日内リズムの著しい逆転がみられ,また Cholesterol 12α-hydroxylase mRNA についても摂食により弱い日内リズムの逆転が観察された。この結果より,摂食による Cholesterol 7α-hydroxylase および Cholesterol\n12α-hydroxylase
