Most studies, however, focus on the function of one discourse marker at a time in an utterance or conversation. Through examples of spoken English from recordings of celebrity interviews, I show that discourse markers can be used together and/or repetitively in narratives to present important information. By placing discourse markersbefore and/or after each significant constituent in a narrative, speakers are able to plan and organize their story and can verify understanding in the listener. Additionally, the listener is guided towards the important narrative phrases and has time to fully comprehend the story.","subitem_description_type":"Other"}]},"item_1_source_id_13":{"attribute_name":"雑誌書誌ID","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"AN00271490","subitem_source_identifier_type":"NCID"}]},"item_1_text_9":{"attribute_name":"著者所属(日)","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_text_value":"鹿児島純心女子短期大学英語科"}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2014-07-31"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"kiyo_44_07.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"182.6 kB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_11","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"kiyo_44_07","url":"https://k-junshin.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/463/files/kiyo_44_07.pdf"},"version_id":"3c6136fc-00b5-48ce-b4e8-48c66722933f"}]},"item_keyword":{"attribute_name":"キーワード","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"discourse markers","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"oral narrative","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"pragmatic contribution","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"Discourse Markers as Presenters of Narrative Constituents","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"Discourse Markers as Presenters of Narrative Constituents"}]},"item_type_id":"1","owner":"3","path":["91"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2014-01-31"},"publish_date":"2014-01-31","publish_status":"0","recid":"463","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["Discourse Markers as Presenters of Narrative Constituents"],"weko_creator_id":"3","weko_shared_id":3},"updated":"2023-05-15T18:18:53.756133+00:00"}
